Amosun offers 28 first class graduates automatic employment

A total of 28 graduates of the  Crescent University, Abeokuta, Ogun State, were at the weekend offered automatic employment by the Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

The governor announced the offer on Saturday while delivering his address at the 8th Convocation ceremony of the university.

Also at the event, the university graduated its first set of eight postgraduate students, while the first sets of state-funded scholarship students from Kano, Sokoto and Zamfara also graduated.

The founder and proprietor of the university, Judge Bola Ajibola, who was visibly excited at the progress the university has made over the years, reiterated the fact that Crescent University prides itself in academic and moral excellence.

“Our degree is not cheap,” he said. “The results left, right and centre are excessively becoming obvious. We now have a name that we have worked hard to achieve over 11 years now.

“Our social contract in this endeavour is to make sure that our graduates will continue to be noted for exemplary character, excellent academics, sound morality and the fear of God.”

He spoke of the academic and moral exploits of graduates of the institution in foreign universities, adding enthusiastically: “Crescent University’s First Class is truly world class.”

The vice chancellor, Professor Ibraheem Gbajabiamila, in his address disclosed that all the university’s inception degree courses in Accounting, Economics, Mass Communication, Computer Science, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Chemistry, Biochemistry and Microbiology have all received full accreditation of the National Universities Commission.

He also said that the university is currently working on securing some linkage and collaborative projects with some foreign universities, for which reason he said he recently visited some South African universities.

Gbajabiamila also announced, among others, that the Islam Channel, one of the fastest growing television broadcast studios in Europe, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate with Crescent University’s Mass Communication Department in training and programme production.

A total of 363 graduates bagged their Bachelor degrees, 28 of them with First Class; 272, Second Class, and 62 Third Class honours.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, was installed as the Chancellor of the university; while former Head of State, General AbdulSalami Abubakar; and Oba Adeyemi both were conferred with the Doctor of Science, DSc. (Honoris Causa), Public Administration.
