Amosun commends Kooko-Ebiye community for maintaining peace

Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has commended residents of Kooko-Ebiye in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state for maintaining peace and order when the throne in the community was vacant after the demise of Oba Olatunji Fashina in October 2008.

Senator Amosun gave the commendation during the presentation of staff of office and instrument of appointment to the new Onikooko of Kooko-Ebiye, Oba Joel Fashina  Ilufemiloye I, at the Palace Square, on Saturday.

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko, pointed out that the disagreement that erupted over the number of ruling houses that were entitled to the throne of Onikooko since 2008 necessitated the intervention of the state government by setting up a panel to look into the crisis.

“Our intervention as a responsive and responsible government was due to our commitment to an all-round well-being of our people. That is why we deem it fit to intervene in the unpalatable situation of who mounts the throne.

“After due consideration of the recommendation of the sole panelist and in consultation with other stakeholders, the appointment of Oba Oluwasegun Joel  Fashiba from Idewu-Isiotan ruling house was approved by the Ogun State government,” Amosun said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Mr Dele Adeniji, expressed gratitude to the state government for its intervention in filling the vacant stool, noting that it was an indication that the socioeconomic life of the people was paramount to the government.

Speaking in the same vein, Chairman of Atan/Iju-Ilogbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr Yakub Jamiu, maintained that the creation of additional 37 LCDAs was a strategic move of government to bring governance closer to the nooks and crannies of the state, adding that it would usher in unprecedented development in all ramifications.

Responding, Oba Fashina promised to extend his hands of fellowship to other contenders and urged his subjects to cooperate with him for a peaceful and sustainable reign that would bring about development and make the community the envy of others.
