AMIS pupils write primary mock exam in Oyo

THE Association of Model Islamic Schools, Nigeria (AMIS), Oyo State chapter, on Saturday, held the 10th edition of the primary mock examination for pupils of its member-schools across the 33 local government areas of the state.

The secretary-general of AMIS in the state who doubles as the chief examiner, Mr Dhulkifli Olabiyi, in a message to all the candidates, said the purpose of the examination was to prepare them for outstanding performance in external examinations.

Olabiyi said the yearly examination was also meant to unite all AMIS schools for the promotion of Islamic heritage.

Twelve thousand candidates from across the state were tested in Mathematics, Quantitative Reasoning, Basic Science and Technology, Computer Studies, English, Verbal Reasoning, Islamic Studies and General Studies.

According to the chief examiner, reports from monitoring teams from across the centres were satisfactory as there were no cases of malpractice or any other improper behaviour on the part of the candidates or their supervisors.

In his pep talk before the commencement of the examination at Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, one of the centres in Lagelu Local Government Area, Olabiyi said: “Examinations give us a chance to test our knowledge and understand how much we have learnt. They are an essential part of any pupil’s life.

While he explained to the pupils that preparation for any examination is almost as important as the examination itself, he said “studying for examinations motivates us to do well and move forward in life.

“This mock examination marks the end of yet another extraordinary chapter in your lives. With this chapter closed, I am certain that many of you are already anxious about starting the next one because, unlike an English book, you cannot skip through the page of life to see what is on the next chapter.

“We all have our book of life that has not yet been written and every day that passes is another page that we write about ourselves.

“Luckily, as pupils from AMIS member-schools, you have been given the paper and ink. You need to write your own stories and with the help of God Almighty, your stories will become best sellers,” the chief examiner said.

He charged the students to desist from examination malpractice, saying “if there is anything to run away from as pupils, it is examination malpractice. It can kill your self-confidence.

“You have worked hard for your examination, so give it your best shot. Stay calm and be positive. Have faith in God. Keep achieving and making us proud. I am sure you will pass this examination with flying colours.”

He disclosed that the fifth edition of the annual mock examination for Junior Secondary School 3 students, equally organised by the association, will come up on April 1 and April 8.
