Ambode presents N813bn budget to Assembly

The  state government, on Tuesday, said it will expend a total of N138.249billion on roads and other infrastructure in the 2017 fiscal year, while it voted N92.40billion and N57.290billion for education and health, respectively.

The state Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr Akinyemi Ashade, said this while giving a breakdown of the 2017 budget proposal earlier presented to the State House of Assembly by Governor Ambode.

Ashade, who is also the  acting Commissioner for Finance, while speaking with newsmen covering the State House, at  the Government House, Alausa, said the state government also proposed to spend a sum of N51.37billion on transportation, N4.795billion on agriculture and food security, N38.129billion on environment, N20.247billion on tourism and security, Law and Order, N31.246billion.

The commissioner, who spoke in company of Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Steve Ayorinde; his counterpart in Works and Infrastructure,  Mr Ganiyu Johnson; Commissioner for Energy, Mr Wale Oluwo, among others, said Housing would gulp a sum of N50.290billion, Sports N9.457billion, with Commerce and Industry, taking N6.177billion, Wealth and Employment Creation, N6.250billion, Women Affairs, N2.193billion and Youth and Social Development, N2.698billion.

He said the money was also meant to be spent on “continue massive road rehabilitation in partnership with the Local Governments/Local Council Development Areas, Murtala Mohammed International Airport Road from Oshodi, Agric- Isawo- Owutu- Arepo Road in Ikorodu, Igbe- Igbogbo Phase 11- Bola Tinubu Way in Ikorodu, Ijegun Imore Phase 11, Amuwo Ojo axis, Oke- Oso- Araga- Poka in Epe, Epe- Poka- Mojoda in Epe and Pen Cinema flyovers, to open up the hinterlands, improve connectivity in the state and reduce travel time,” he said.

“We shall also continue the expansion of BRT corridors, Signage, Lane-Marking and Community Traffic Initiatives, Reclamation of Lekki Foreshore, Advancement of ‘Light-up’ Lagos project through provision, rehabilitation and maintenance of streetlight facilities including solar power and inner roads,” he added.
