Amaechi foundation empowers 300 N Delta youths in construction engineering

THE Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI), a Non-Governmental organisation founded by the wife of the Minister for Transportation, Judith Amaechi has trained over 300 Niger Delta youths in construction engineering in a bid to create jobs and discourage youth involvement in militancy.

Amaechi in a chat with the media in Abuja noted that the 300 trainees who are waiting to be graduated will be provided with the necessary tools to enable them start-up their businesses upon graduation.

She said, “the foundation has established an entrepreneur school which has over 9 departments, so we have trained people in other departments like fashion design, making of soap and cream, mechanical engineering and business management”.

Amaechi lamented the high level of unemployment in the country, tasking privilege Nigerians to give back to the society. She noted that “if we look inward, I believe we will have enough jobs in Nigeria”.

According to her, giving back to the society is a passion, “I have something that I call the passion that I drive, the passion was there before I became the speaker’s wife or the governor’s wife”.

“But beyond that, I have a thing for people who are motherless or fatherless. I lost my mother at an early age but I was lucky to have a wonderful woman who brought me up. I had an opportunity, and I want to also give that opportunity to everybody that comes to me. I could have been different if I didn’t have that opportunity” she stated.

Amaechi said ESI has equally empowered children in the area of education in the region. “We have trained over 4,000 pupils from the nursery schools” adding that the foundation has built over 37 nursery schools in River state.

She stated that “there is much to be done but because of financial constraint we have to be focusing on one area of specialisation at a time. Theis training cost a lot of money, so we choose one department and do the training and empower our youths, now we are rounding up training on construction engineering after which we will move to another department” she stated.
