AMAA: 93Days, RMD, Majid Michel, others know fate today

The die has been cast for all nominations of the 2017 African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

The nominees, however, will today at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos know the sides on which the gods have chosen to smile.

The nomination announcement held on May 13 at the Kigali Convention Centre, Rwanda, had earlier pitched movie stars such as Majid Michel, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Ramsey Nouah, Rita Dominic, Somkele Idhalama, Angelique Kidjo others and works such as 93 Days, “76” and “A Trip to Jamaica” for the big prize.

Also, Nollywood movies got the highest number of nominations from entries submitted from movie making countries of Africa and in diaspora.

Out of the total of 136 nominations, Nigerian movies got 43 in the general competitive categories.

93 Days’ got the highest nominations in seven categories.

AMAA awards are aimed at honouring and promoting excellence in the African movie industry as well as uniting the African continent through arts and culture.

The 13th edition of the awards ceremony, which will be hosted by Nollywood diva, Nse Ikpe-Etim, has been synced with Lagos at 50 anniversary celebration and will witness a high profile guest list.

From the entourage of first citizen of Lagos State, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, to stars of the Nigerian movie and entertainment industry, to delegates of the movie industries around Africa as well as the international guests, the venue of the 13th edition of the continental award would be robust with glamour and glitz.

The 2016 AMAA held on Saturday, June 11, at Dr. Obi Wali Event Centre, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, saw Daniel K Daniel, Thishiwe Ziqubu, “Meet the Parents,” “Dry,” “Soldier Story,” “Tell Me Something New” among other emerging winners.

The award presentation will be attended by numerous media representatives, celebrities, politicians, journalists, actresses and actors from all across the world.
