Defence Headquarters, on Wednesday, said its attention was drawn to a newspaper report with the caption: “Militants Blow up Pipeline After Osinbajo Visit,” in Ughelli, Delta State, apparently in defiance of the efforts of the Federal Government at addressing issues in that region and noted that the said report to say the least was not only a ruse but a complete imagination of its author as the said incident was a bush burning which was immediately put under control.
It said that the prompt action prevented environmental catastrophe that the incident might have caused.
It appealed to media practitioners who are also stakeholders in nation building to properly verify issues of defence and security matter especially as it affects the economic security of the country before going to press to avoid causing unnecessary apprehension among the populace.
“There is the need for all people of goodwill to work in synergy with security agencies towards the betterment of the region in particular and the country in general,” the statement noted.
