Alleged land grabbing: Intervene now, before we take laws in our hands, Ewusi Makun tells Abiodun

The Ewusi of Makun Sagamu, Oba Timothy Akinsanya, has urged Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, to swiftly intervene over alleged activities of Oniraniken of Iraniken, Oba Adewale Adeniji, on land issues in Makun communities.

The traditional ruler while addressing the press at his palace, last Friday, said his subjects had suffered dehumanization enough in the hands of land grabbers allegedly sponsored by Oba Adeniji.

He explained that nothing positive had come out of petitions written to Governor Abiodun and the State House of Assembly over the matter, despite their peaceful approach on the matter.

Oba Akinsanya explained that some Makun villages were recently attacked by hoodlums on the instruction of Oniraniken.

He, however, vowed to lead his subjects in a peaceful protest if nothing is being done by the government within the next seven days.

“We are all gathered here today to announce to the State Government, that if nothing is being done to rescue Makun community of Sagamu from this unacceptable and criminal acts, we shall be staging a peaceful protest that shall lockdown Sagamu township in the next seven days if the government would not act accordingly to forestall likely reprisal from our community.

“We urge the Inspector General of Police to do all that is in his capacity to ensure that a looming communal clash that may further threaten our peaceful co-existence is being abated.

“We are peace-loving people and that is why we are toeing this path of peace. We can no longer fold our hands. This is no threat, but a statement of fact. It is time we defend our territory with our might. The land illegally acquired by Oniraniken belongs to the Makun community,” he added.
