A Kano State High Court has rejected the application filed by Abdullahi Ganduje, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to stop his trial over alleged multi-billion naira fraud charges.
The court ruled that the charges filed against Ganduje and seven others are competent and can proceed to trial.
The defendants include Ganduje’s wife, Hafsat Umar, Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Limited, and Lasage General Enterprises Limited. They face an 11-count charge bordering on bribery, conspiracy, misappropriation, and diversion of public funds.
Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu dismissed the defendants’ preliminary objections, describing them as incompetent, and citing relevant legal authorities.
The judge affirmed that the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission is empowered to investigate criminal issues, and the case can proceed even in Ganduje’s absence.
The court summoned Lamash Properties Limited, the sixth defendant, and adjourned the matter to July 30 and July 31 for hearing.
The ruling paves the way for the trial to continue, with the prosecution set to present its case against Ganduje and the other defendants.
