Alleged adultery: Court acquits Jigawa commissioner

An Upper Shari’a Court sitting in Kano, Kano state capital, has discharged and acquitted the Jigawa state commissioner for special duties, Honourable Auwalu Dalladi Sankara, over a case instituted against him for alleged extra-marital affairs with a married woman.

In his ruling, the presiding judge, Khadi Ibrahim Sarki Yola, said based on the police report, the complainant failed to provide any evidence to prove the allegation he filed before the court.

“This case filed against Taslim Baba Nabegu and Auwalu Dalladi Sankara lacks merit and any reliable evidence for the court to proceed with it. Therefore, the case is hereby struck out. The first and second defendants are also discharged,” the judge declared.

Recall that the commissioner was dragged before Sharia court in October after being arrested by Kano state Hisbah over a complaint from one Nasiru Buba Jalam for alleged illegal affairs with his wife.

Tribune Online gathered that the husband, Nasiru Buba Jalam, filed the case against his wife, Taslim Baba Nabegu, and the commissioner, accusing them of having extra-marital affairs.

Following reports of alleged misconduct involving the commissioner, Tribune Online earlier reported that the Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, approved the suspension of Auwalu Dalladi Sankara as Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Special Duties and member of the State Executive Council (SEC) pending an investigation.

Reacting to the court judgement, Barrister Rabiu Shuaibu Abdullahi, who is the counsel to the first defendant, Taslim Baba Nabegu (wife of the complainant), said they are satisfied with the ruling.

Similarly, counsel to the second defendant, Barrister Saddam Suleiman Shehu, said the outcome of the court judgement has proven his client, Hon Auwal Dalladi Sankara, as innocent of all the allegations levelled against him.

“We are studying the outcome of the judgement, and the suspected political witch-hunting around it for further action,” the defendant’s counsel stated.
