•passes vote of confidence on VC

National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Lagos chapter has affirmed that an allegation against the Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) Ijanikin, Lagos, Professor Bidemi Lafiaji- Okuneye is untrue.

The Chairman, NANS, Lagos state chapter,
Abdul-Quadri AbdulRaheem said this recently during a press conference held in the institution in reaction to reports by some Media organizations.

According to NANS, the allegations levied against the institution’s VC including irregularities in staff wages, poor welfare conditions of staff, and writing of examinations by students under pressure and duress were not true.

NANS stated that after thorough investigation of the allegations, it was discovered that the allegations were false

The students association however passed a vote of confidence on the University VC while he urged the general public to disregard the news.

NANS however call on well-meaning Nigerians, stakeholders in the education sector, and the media to disregard the allegations and support the continued progress of LASUED under its current leadership.

“I stand before you today as the Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Lagos State Chapter, to address the recent allegations leveled against the Vice-Chancellor.

“The claims published in some media organizations suggesting that LASUED staff are suffering wage irregularities and poor welfare conditions and that students are writing exams under pressure and duress, have been thoroughly investigated.

“Findings from My Facility Tour at LASUED
Earlier today, I embarked on a facility tour inside the school, engaging with staff, students, and key stakeholders. I am pleased to report that:

“The allegations are completely false and misleading, aimed at discrediting the tremendous progress recorded by the current administration.

“All facilities are well-equipped, with significant upgrades under the leadership of Professor B.B Lafiaji-Okuneye. The institution is attracting external investors, a testament to the confidence the business community has in the school’s administration. Notably, HRM Oba Josiah Ikuyamiku, Oloto of Oto, has built a modern lecture facility, while Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has constructed an ultra-modern e-Library. Additionally, HRM Oba Raji Sulaimon Adesina, Oniba Of Iba Kingdom, has designed and built an impressive architectural-style School Entrance at the main campus. These investments demonstrate the institution’s commitment to providing a world-class learning environment. Students’ leadership across faculties and departments confirmed that students are not writing exams under duress or pressure, contrary to the claims made by detractors.

“On this note, as the number one student leader in Lagos State, I hereby declare that NANS Lagos State is passing a vote of confidence on Prof. B.B Lafiaji-Okuneye, the Vice-Chancellor of LASUED.

“We urge all stakeholders, including the media, to verify facts before spreading misinformation that could destabilise the progress of an institution committed to academic excellence”.
