Align with policy on environmental aesthetics, Oyo govt tasks advertising practitioners

Oyo State Government has advocated for proper regulation of outdoor advertising activities to ensure that they align with its policy on environmental aesthetics, and enhance visual landscaping of the state.

Acting Governor, Bayo Lawal, who declared open the 39th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Out of Home Advertising Association of Nigeria (OAAN) held in Ibadan recently, emphasized the need for accredited practitioners to collaborate with the government to eliminate unqualified practitioners from the sector.

In his address, the acting governor also urged members of OAAN to take advantage of the opportunities available in the state that collaboration with the government will afford.

In his goodwill message to the participants at the 39th AGM, the host and Director General of the Oyo State Signage and Advertising Agency (OYSAA), Oludolapo Eso-Ajanaku, announced that the agency has initiated rigorous sanitation exercises to maintain a clean and organized outdoor advertising ecosystem in the state. He added that in the coming months, OYSAA will oversee the proper enumeration and reorganisation of billboards, removal of dilapidated and substandard structures, and address the issue of clustering that has plagued the state for several years.

Earlier in his welcome address, the president of OAAN, Mr Sola Akinsiku, rallied support for a bill on Out-of-Home Media Asset Ownership and Practice in Nigeria, saying that this would help protect and sanitize their businesses.

Delivering a lecture entitled: “Redefining Out-of-Home Media in Nigeria,” former President of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN), Mr Lolu Akinwunmi, identified key challenges facing the sector and encouraged practitioners to add value to their businesses by offering additional services that would make them more attractive to clients.
