THE Association of Local Government of Nigeria, (ALGON), Kogi state chapter has refuted claims that its chairman, Honourable Taofiq Isah was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force.
The Chairman was said to have been arrested in Ijumu local government area of the state, even as the association blamed Senator Dino Melaye as originator of the alleged rumour.
The association’s head of media and publicity, Mr Haruna Abdulkerim, in Abuja on Wednesday, explained that the Chairman with other members of the association were in Abuja with the state’s governor, Yahaya Bello for a function at the date he was reportedly arrested .
He wondered how someone who was in Abuja on the sad day would have been arrested at the same time in Kogi.
His words: “It is clear and on record that ALGON members were in Abuja on the said date where the Governor of Kogi state bagged an award of recognition for outstanding leadership and efforts at addressing security challenges in the state.
“So, we wonder how someone who was in Abuja, could be arrested at Ijumu at the same time.”
He described the allegation as an attempt by mischief makers to tarnish the image of its chairman.
“Many Kogites have seen the fruitless efforts by these gangs of mischief makers to distract the government and cause an unnecessary heat within the polity. Their attempts will continue to fail, because this government is resolute. No self-seeking individuals would be allowed to hold Kogi State to ransom anymore, at least, not under our watch,” he explained.
“They only want a Kogi State where it would be business as usual, where a small caucus of self-serving politicians would put the entire resources of the state in their pockets at the detriment of the general good. We must join hands together to rid ourselves of these corrupt and egocentric individuals who are bent on bringing this state to its knees,” he urged.
