Alao-Akala promises Oyo traders economic prosperity

THE gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Oyo state and former governor of the state, Chief Adebayo Alao- Akala, on Monday assured traders in the state that if they vote him into office, he will ensure that markets enjoy economic boom and he will promote businesses with interest-free loans.

The ADP candidate who gave the assurance while on a campaign tour of various markets in Ibadan stated that under his watch, the state will have brighter economic prosperity and promotion of the welfare of the entire citizenry will be a priority.

The campaign train which took off from his Bodija residence moved around the city with messages of hope and better future of for traders. Moving from Sabo, Akala and his campaign train visited Alesinloye Market, Ogunpa, Agbeni and new Gbagi where he further promised the traders of providing enabling and conducive atmosphere that would enhance trading activities.

He observed with great concern capital flight from the state arising from the harsh economic policies of the present administration which was characterised by the award of major contracts to non-residents and foreigners.

According to the ADP flagbearer, this has resulted in low patronage of businesses as the non-residents’ contractors procured materials from outside the state and even ‘import’ artisans.

He recalled that during his first coming there was sufficient money in circulation as the financial gains trickled down to the traders as patronage of businesses was high.

Otunba Alao- Akala said he will revive the state’s moribund Pacesetter Micro Finance bank and grant soft loans to boost their businesses.

“The era of paying back loans through the noses will soon be a thing of the past if you give me your support through your votes. The essence of governance is to evolve good, friendly and people-oriented policies that would enhance the promotion of the welfare and wellbeing of the masses,” he said.

He said he will not embark on any demolition of structures and destroy their means of livelihood, but rather provide succour and put smiles on their faces as he will ensure the spread of the dividend of democracy.

He then called on the traders to vote en mass for the ADP to end poverty, deprivations and disregard to court orders.
