This was disclosed to newsmen on Tuesday by the vice-chancellor, Professor Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde while addressing a press conference on activities lined up for the event.
The fourth honorary doctorate awardee is a notable motivational speaker and entrepreneur, Mrs Ibukun Awosika.
Professor Olatunde disclosed that a total of 5,137 graduands would be taking part in the convocation ceremony from the various faculties and Centre for Continuing Education as well as the Postgraduate School.
According to him, 15 would be graduating with First Class Honours, 531 with Second Class Upper honours, 1,673 Second Lower honours degree, 1,027 Pass degree; and “732 from outstanding sessions.”
A total of 654 postgraduate graduands will also be taking part in the ceremony, comprising 474 with Masters degree; 74 with PhD, 1 MPhil, and 105 PGD (postgraduate diploma).
The 27th convocation ceremonies, according to the vice-chancellor, started on Tuesday 23 January with an Agriculture and Engineering Show, which will last till Thursday 25 January, on which day a football match would be organised at the university’s sports complex.
He said that on Friday, January 26, a Jumat Service would be held at the University Mosque, followed that day with a convocation play at the Pit Theatre at 4 pm; while on Sunday, January 28th, a convocation service would be held at the Chapel of Abundant Life at 10 am.
According to the convocation programmes, Monday, January 29th, 2018, will witness award of prizes for graduands in the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Education, Law, Pharmacy, Science and College of Health Sciences.
On Tuesday, January 30, there will be convocation and award of prizes for the Faculties of Arts, Social and Management Sciences, College of Agricultural Sciences, and College of Engineering and Environmental Sciences.
A Convocation Lecture will be delivered on Wednesday 31 January by Professor Michael O. Faborode, secretary-general of the Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU), entitled ‘State Universities in Nigeria: Problems, Prospects and Our Common Future’.
This, the vice chancellor said, would be followed by the award of postgraduate degree and conferment of honorary degrees on the four distinguished Nigerians.
