The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, has commended the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President MuhammaduBuhari, for signing into law the establishment of the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According to a letter personally signed by the paramount ruler, he, on behalf of the entire people of Egbaland at home and Diaspora, expressed his profound gratitude to President Buharifor his consent for the newly established university.
Speaking further, the first class monarch said that given the Egbas’ acclaimed penchant for education for centuries, the new medical university would further cement his domain as a leading citadel of excellence.
Oba Gbadebo said, “Mr. President, your gesture underscores your love for humanity, especially to the Egba people. Assuredly, your name shall be immortalised in the kingdom’s Hall of Fame as a harbinger of education and capacity development.”
He concluded by expressing his esteemed regards on behalf of his subjects, to President Buhari whose signature in the Establishment Act 2023 and its statutory pronouncement, added value to his domain.
Tribune Online recalls that the bill for the establishment of University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta was introduced to the Senate by Senator representing Ogun Central and Chairman Senate Committee on Health (2015-2019), Senator (Dr.) Lanre Tejuoso in 2018. And it passed the 1st and 2nd readings on the floor of the Senate.
His successor, Senator lbikunle Amosun, adopted and concluded the process.
Speaking on the approval of the university, Senator Tejuoso commended President Buhari, Oba Gbadebo and Senator Amosun and expressed his gratitude to God that the collaborative effort had yielded the desired result.
