A statement by the Alaafin on Saturday, said the sudden and untimely death of Tinubu’s son, “sent such shock of unimaginable proportion, not only to the whole of Yorubaland, but throughout Nigeria and, the whole world at large.”
According to the Alaafin, “the death of an Aremo (the eldest son) in Yorubaland is categorised as Ofo. In Yoruba belief, Ofo is a calamitous death that renders to not only the biological family but the whole extended family and all those who share common identity to the family to a state of unmitigated mourning.”
The statement expressed the condolence of the “the Alaafin, Oyomesi, traditional rulers in Oyo State and the generality of the citizenry of our people” saying, “we share the pain of the sudden demise of Aremo Jide Ahmed Tinubu.”
Similarly, the Oluwo of Iwo described Jide’s death as an irreparable loss, noting that the brilliance the deceased shown in his career during his lifetime showed how huge a loss his death was.
In a statement by his press secretary, Alli Ibrahim, Oba Akanbi urged Tinubu to draw inspiration from the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who experienced same in the 60s but later rose to play a key role in Nigerian politics.
The Oluwo also described Tinubu as a pillar that must remain firm in order to sustain the expectations of his teeming political followers, who believe in him as a purposeful leader.
In another development, the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Oyo State chapter, commiserated with Senator Tinubu, praying to God to grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.
In a statement by Dr Akin Onigbinde and Honourable Babatunde Oduyoye, the AD described Jide’s death as a sad loss of a promising young man, calling on the Tinubu family to take heart.
