Alaafin of Oyo’s coronation: Oyo NSCDC deploys 500 personnel for security

In order to ensure a smooth and secure coronation ceremony for the new Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, the Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), led by Commandant Augustine Padonu, has deployed about 500 highly trained personnel to provide security.

Aside from providing security, the personnel will ensure crowd control and safeguard critical infrastructure throughout the duration of the ceremony.

In a statement on Wednesday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Samuel Opebiyi, disclosed that the Commandant, in preparation for the event, had earlier visited Oyo Town to assess the level of preparedness of NSCDC personnel and to ensure that all necessary security measures were in place.

Also, during the visit, Commandant Padonu held a strategic meeting with the Area Commander, Area “E” Command, and the Divisional Officers under the Area Command, where he received briefings on security arrangements and gave directives for enhanced security operations throughout the coronation period.

The PRO stated: “Given the significance of this historic event and the large number of attendees expected, NSCDC will be deploying a contingent of about 500 highly trained personnel to provide security, ensure crowd control, and safeguard critical infrastructure throughout the duration of the ceremony.

“Our officers will be strategically stationed at key locations, including the coronation venue, major roads, and other critical areas in Oyo Town, to prevent any breach of security.

“Additionally, NSCDC is an integral part of the committee set up to ensure the successful conduct of the coronation, particularly in terms of security.

“The Corps is working in close collaboration with other security agencies to maintain law and order before, during, and after the event.

“These experienced officers will monitor activities and respond promptly to any security concerns.”

Opebiyi said that the NSCDC remains committed to its mandate of protecting lives and property, assuring residents and guests that all necessary measures had been taken to ensure their safety throughout the coronation festivities.

The command urged members of the public to cooperate with security operatives and adhere to all guidelines for a successful and peaceful event.
