Alaafin, Alake, Obasanjo to attend Delano’s books presentation

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba (Dr.) Lamidi Adeyemi, Alake of Egba Land, Oba(Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo and former president, Olusegun Obasanjo are some of the dignitaries that would attend the 40th memorial anniversary lecture and Books presentation of late Chief (Dr.) Isaac O Delano.

The event would take place on December 17, 2019, at the Agip Hall, Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos by 10 am.

Obasanjo is the distinguished chairman of the event while the Obas are the royal fathers of the day.
Book launcher is Chief Bode Akindele, others are Chief Richard Akinjide (SAN), Mr.Fola Adeola.

The event, which is organized by the Isaac .O. Delano Foundation will have three books presentation; two written by the late Chief Isaac O. Delano, A Dictionary of Yoruba Monosyllabic Verbs and Selected Works of Chief Isaac Delano on Yoruba Language, and an elaborate analysis of all of Delano’s works by Prof. Toyin Falola, titled Cultural Modernity in a Colonized World: The Writings of Chief Isaac Delano.

The spokesperson for the family, Chief Akinwande Delano explained that the main objective of the public presentation of the books by Chief I. O Delano is to set up an endowment fund for the propagation of the teaching and studying of Yoruba Language at all levels.

He also added that the event is not only to highlight the academic significance of the enduring legacy of Chief Delano but also to memorialize the life and achievements of a great legend.

“As revealed by Professor Toyin Falola, an annual Delano Prize in Yoruba Studies, to be managed by Yoruba Studies Review and the Pan-African University Press, will be announced at the event. In his reflections on the program, Professor Toyin

Falola sets the tone of the event in a revolutionary manner. As he said, it is a general belief that development resides where genuine and constant education goes. In other words, genuine education is the harbinger of the development of every society” he said.
