Former Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura
NASARAWA State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-makura, has charged newly inaugurated chairman and members of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), to be fair and transparent in the conduct of the forthcoming Local Government polls, slated for May 26.
The governor gave the charge on Monday at the Government House, Lafia, during the swearing-in ceremony of the members of the commission and its chairman, a Permanent Secretary in the state civil service and two Local Government Chairmen.
According to Al-makura the people of the state are expectant of a credible election, hence, the commission should carry out its duty without fear of favour.
The governor stated that the state government has sent a bill to the house of assembly to extend the tenure of local government chairmen from two to three years.
He explained that two years for council chairmen was not enough to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroots.
