Akwa Ibom: Police to clamp down on illegal tinted glass, covered number plate users

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara, has threatened to clamp down on motorists with tinted glass and covered number plates without a permit.

The warning by the Police boss was contained in a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, and made available to journalists in Uyo on Thursday.

According to the statement, the use of illegal tinted glass, sirens and concealed number plates on vehicles is a crime and constitutes a nuisance and risk to public safety in society.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara has noted with dismay a rise in the use of these items on private and unauthorized vehicles.

“The use of tinted glass, sirens and concealed number plates on vehicles constitutes a significant risk to public safety and order in the state.

“It makes it difficult for law enforcement officials to identify vehicles involved in criminal activities, thereby hindering their efforts to maintain a safe environment for Akwa Ibomites and residents in the state.

“To ensure total compliance with regulations regarding tinted glass, use of siren and concealed number plates, all motorists plying public roads are urged to desist from this practice,” the statement stressed.

It further stated that the Akwa Ibom State Police Command is committed to enforcing the law and has directed a total clampdown on violators.

It urged members of the public to comply with the regulations and work with law enforcement officials to maintain a safe environment for all.
