The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, on Tuesday, described the death of the lawmaker representing the Akure North /South Federal Constituency, Hon Adedayo Omolafe, as a disaster that dealt a big blow on the entire Akure community.
The monarch in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Michael Adeyeye, said the people of the town received the death of Omolafe with heavy heart, rude shock and utmost disbelief, saying his stay was short but lived a heroic life of service to God and humanity.
Oba Aladetoyinbo said: “The late Omolafe was an exceptional philanthropist whose love for mankind and Akure, in particular, cannot be underestimated.
“As a former elected Councilor, supervisory Councilor, elected Chairman of Akure South, State Coordinator of the Subsidy re-investment Programme, Chairman of Ondo State Property Development Corporation and an elected member of the National Assembly, Omolafe distinguished himself as one of the shining lights and a major rallying point for Akure politics and Ondo state at large.”
The Akure monarch said he would find it hard to forget the good memories he had of the late Omolafe who he said was always full of life and had good intentions and promises for the palace and the progress of the Akure Kingdom.
“Omolafe was very responsive and a perfect example of a great, selfless and homemade leader who grew from among his people, rose to stardom and decided to remain with his people till his last breath.
“As sorrowful as we are in Akure Community at the moment, I urge the Akure people to see his death as a lesson for us, that we must live an impactful life with a dedication to the service of God and humanity.
“There is no doubt that Omolafe lived a short but fulfilled and heroic life. He came, he saw and he conquered.
“Omolafe is renowned for his love for his people, touching lives, giving hope to the hopeless and his uncommon generosity to his people.”
The monarch, however, said that the late politician will remain a hero even in death, urging all Akure indigenes both home and diaspora as well as all the good people of Ondo State to remember his immediate family in their prayers at this trying time.
He said: “Just like one of his popular scriptural quotes “I returned and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all”.
“There is time for everything, a time to be born and a time to die.”
