A newly-built community town hall which will serve as a centre for hospitality for people of Akinrinola Community, Idi-Ose, Ibadan, Oyo State was commissioned on Saturday.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman, Akinrinola Community, Pastor Michael Egbeyale, said the hall was constructed to get a befitting place for their meetings and create a good atmosphere for people to have their events.
The chairman said residents are not enjoying the dividends of democracy at Akinrinola, saying all roads linked to the community are not motorable and need urgent attention from the state government.
He charged members and other residents within the community to embrace peace and tolerance as development could only be witnessed in a peaceful and tolerant environment.
He stated that within the eight years of the existence of Akinrinola Community under his leadership, they have procured 15 cement poles to replace wooden poles, constructed a dilapidated bridge linking the community Seriki/Akinrin, refurbished the damaged transformer within three months, procured the land used to construct the town hall, among others.
He said: “The hall we are commissioning today (Saturday), its foundation was done June 11, 2021, and through our N2,500 development levy, with your N500 monthly security levy with your efforts, loyalty, support and prayers, we achieved it.
“The work is not yet completed as we can all see, tiling, plumbing works, borehole, soakaway, procurement of air conditioners, procurement of chairs and tables, etc are yet to be done.
“It is more important to put on record that N9,107,239 has been spent on this project to date.
“The 500kva transformer we are presently using has become overloaded as a result of the expansion of the two communities (Akinrinola and Seriki). This is why we are requesting the government’s quick intervention for the provision of a relief transformer to service the two communities.
“We constructed the hall so as to have a permanent place for our meeting and also for our people to have a place for their parties in order to curb the habit of having parties across the road.
In his remark, the chairman, Akinyele Local Government Area, Mr Taoreed Adedigba, lauded Akinrinola landlords for providing a befitting hall for the community.
He said: “This is enlightenment that the government cannot alone provide for all our needs in terms of welfare, amenities, and infrastructure needed for the development of our communities.
“Coming together as a community to achieve this greatness manifests the fact that we are working hand-in-hand with the government in making sure that our people enjoy modern facilities,” he said.
