Akeredolu swears in new Chief Judge, clears air on relationship

Ondo State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu

Ondo state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, on Monday inaugurated Justice Olanrewaju Akeredolu, as the acting Chief Judge for the state, clearing air on the criticism that greeted the appointment of the new Chief Judge.

Akeredolu who disclosed that they are not blood related stated that, “It is enough that we belong to the same profession but I assert, without equivocation, that my lord is not a member of Akeredolu family of Owo.”

“We are not related by blood or marriage, at least to the best of my knowledge. If it were so, that should not be a disadvantage to a resourceful person such as a judge of the High Court.”

“This administration will continue to be associated with and unwavering dedication to serve the people. Nepotistic and clannish considerations are not, and will not be associated with this administration.”

The governor said, “Affinity with regard to blood or marriage should not be a reason for discrimination and vilification against the deserving.”

“No, citizen, however, must be dispossessed or discriminated against on account of birth, marriage, gender, religion or ethnicity.”

He however said that Justice Akeredolu appointment was non merit saying there is no doubt she merited it.

The governor called on other judges and workers in the judiciary to work hand-in-hand with the new Chief Judge for smooth administration of justice in the state.

Speaking after her inauguration, Justice Akeredolu described her appointment as an opportunity to serve God and humanity in higher capacity.

She however promised to ensure discipline at all level and not tolerate corruption.

Criticism had greeted the appointment of the Acting Chief Judge following the general belief that she was governor Akeredolu blood sister from the same area of the state.
