Akeredolu reads riot act to corrupt civil servants in Ondo

Ondo state governor, Mr  Rotimi Akeredolu, on Tuesday read riot act to corrupt civil servants in the state, with a promise to sack any workers involved in any corrupt practices.

Akeredolu stated this during the signing of the 2017 budget of the N170.8b for the state into law vowed to rid off corrupt Civil servants from the state by setting trap for them.

The governor noted corruption has eaten deep into every sector saying the menace had become a canker worm that had eaten deep into the system.

He threatened to sack any corrupt officer caught while he urged such officer to take the government to court to seek redress.

Speaking before signing the budget, the governor said that his administration would devise means of blocking loopholes exploited by unscrupulous elements to deny the state of deserved revenue.

The governor disclosed that his administration would expand the tax base aggressively to be able to fund the budget saying that a bill on how to raise fund  and revenue for the state would be forwarded to the House of Assembly before the end of next week.

He however described disproportionate percentage of budgetary allocation expended on recurrent expenditure as pathetic and said “eating out future now” adding that his administration will take steps to correct the imbalance

“Our administration had tried to reduce the embarrassing imbalance between recurrent and capital expenditure.

“Our citizens who are not employed in the formal sector must feel the impact of governance positively.”

The budget is however broken down into four components which included: Debt servicing of about N8.127b, Statutory transfer N8.374b, Recurrent expenditure N95.159 and Capital expenditure N59.187b.
