Akeredolu hails Ondo people over poll conduct

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, of Ondo state, on Monday, hailed the people of the state for their peaceful and commendable conduct during last Saturday’s House of Assembly election in the state.

Akeredolu, who stated this while speaking to newsmen in his office, said he is particularly delighted over the people’s uncommon commitment to the ideas of representative democracy.

The governor said he is also delighted that the people, irrespective of their ethnic background, showed the true character and value of Ondo State as a land of uncommon heroes.

He commended the residents for trooping out to vote for the candidates of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the last state assembly election.

The governor, who stresses the importance of the election, said the poll signifies the foundation for the convention of the second arm of government whose responsibility as a lawmaking body is a key tool in the overall performance of government.

Akeredolu, however, expressed his appreciation to the security agencies for displaying their professionalism during the election.

For the misguided miscreants and other trouble makers who attempted to disrupt the peaceful election, the governor said he will not relent in his commitment to ensuring the security of the residents of the state and their properties.

Akeredolu sympathised with the family of the young corps member, Mr Ibrahim Okanlawon, who died on Saturday in the course of duty.

Okanlawon served as INEC ad-hoc staff in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State before he died in a boat mishap.

“Following the residents’ loud, clear and unmistakable decision to vote candidates of their choice during the Saturday’s election, I am persuaded that the peace, progress and unprecedented development that has taken place in the Sunshine State will continue to serve as the impetus for future endeavours,” Akeredolu said.
