ONDO State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, on Thursday, donated cash gifts to the families of slain soldiers who lost their lives during the killing of the leader of a dreaded militant group, Ossy Ibori,  in Ajakpa in Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The governor who announced the donation during his visit to the Commanding Officer of the 19 Battalion, Okitipupa, Lt-Col Maaji, described the death of the military personnel as regrettable.

Akeredolu, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Security, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo, expressed the state government’s readiness to continue to provide logistics support for the military and other security agencies to carry out their functions of protecting the people.

The Commanding Officer, 19 Battalion, Maaji, who was represented by Captain Michael Ogundele, commended the governor for sharing in the grief of the Nigerian Army at this difficult time and assured the governor of the military’s commitment to the discharge of their duties.

The state government however presented the sum of N250,000 to the soldier who sustained bullet wounds and N500,000 each to the families of the three soldiers who lost their lives during  the shootout between soldiers and militants.

It will be recalled that the three soldiers lost their lives while many others were left injured during a gun battle between militants and troops of the Nigerian Army at Ajakpa community in Ondo State.

Peace has since returned to the area, while the government and the security agencies are working together to ensure that such sad incident does not repeat itself again.
