Ahead of 2020 governorship election in Ondo State, a group within the state chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), Democratic Peace Movement for Aketi 2020, on Monday threw their weight behind the re-election of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu for a second term in office.

The group, which consists of mostly appointees of the governor, called on Governor Akeredolu to consider running for the second term in office, said: “the second term for Akeredolu is not negotiable.”

Speaking during a press conference in Akure, Ondo State capital, the Chief of Staff to the governor, Chief Gbenga Ale, said Akeredolu deserved the party’s tickets to re-contest in order to continue the developmental strides initiated by the governor.

Ale who disclosed that the party leadership had been making efforts to resolve the internal wrangling with the state chapter of the APC to ensure victory for the party in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

He said: “Akeredolu has done quite well to deserve a second term in office. There are many reasons why he should be supported for his re-election.

“He has done much to ensure peace, unity and harmony in the state, because, without peace and unity, you cannot achieve anything.

“He has touched virtually all sectors, from health to education, agriculture, road construction, infrastructural development and he has improved the economy of the state.

“Development of human capital, regular payments of workers salary and he has even agreed to pay the new minimum wage with effect from this January and giving him another term will ensure the completion of projects scattered across the state.”

Also speaking, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Bamidele Oleyelogun, also said the state would experience more development if Akeredolu could be returned to the office by the people of the state during the election.

Oleyelogun who was represented by Hon Samuel Aderoboye, commended the efforts of the governor on the new security outfit for the region, assuring that the House of Assembly will soon pass a bill to give the security outfit more legal backing.

Also, the Special Adviser to the governor on Security Matters, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo, said Akeredolu will continue to give priority to the security of lives and property in the state if re-elected.

Speaking on the Amotekun initiative introduced by the southwest governors, Dojumo said that Amotekun was not planned in the dark, saying that the Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Mohammed was invited and represented at the Security Summit where the governors celebrated and agreed on the establishment of Amotekun.

Dojumo said: “Six Commissioners of Police were present and Assistant Inspector General of Police(AIG) Zone 11 represented the IG at the security summit in Ibadan.

“We are not usurping the power of the police as the conventional security agency. Amotekun has finally come out of the cage.”
