Governor Rotimi Akeredolu
Ondo State governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Tuesday charged clergymen in the country to always live above board so as to earn the respect of the people
The governor, who said the clergymen stand in the place of nobility and truth for the people, urged them to preach against corruption in its entirety, describing it as one of the challenges confronting the country.
Akeredolu stated this during the opening ceremony of the Methodist Church of Nigeria 37th Council of Bishops official at the Wesley University and Ondo 10th Founder’s Day Celebration held at the Wesley main campus, Ondo.

Akeredolu charged the Bishops to assume the position of the prophets of the old by checkmating the political dynasty of the period, describing politicians and clergymen as an important segment of the society who must always complement each other in moving the country forward.
He said “Taking a closer look at the nature of our obligatory intervention, it has to be complimentary. We can’t continue to condemn each other. We are humans, we have our fallibility. All of us are human, we strive to be like Christ
“While the politicians are elected, the clergy must play the role of the servant of God and servant of the people. We are elected, but yours is clear that you can’t be afraid of any terrestrial interference. I know you are bold at all time to speak truth to power. ”
Earlier, the Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Dr Samuel ‘Emeka Kanu Uche recommended that more power should be given to the component parts that make up Nigeria.
He said that the geopolitical zones should be made strong regions with the state under them and also allow them to tap the resources within their region.
He commended the Akeredolu administration for the giant strides it has recorded in the area of road rehabilitation and construction, educational development, improved health services delivery and the improvement in the agricultural sectors among others
