Akeredolu appoints Ige substantive AAUA VC

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has appointed Professor Olugbenga Ebenezer Ige, as the sixth substantive Vice-Chancellor of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Richard Olabode, who said the appointment takes effect from Wednesday, July, 7 2021, for a one-term of five years.

olabode said the Governor’s approval was in line with the exercise of his power under Paragraph 3 (8) of Schedule 1 of Adekunle Ajasin University Law.

According to the chief press secretary,  Ige’s appointment was conveyed in a letter signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale, to the University’s pro-chancellor and chairman of Council, saying, “Governor Akeredolu approved Profesor Ige’s appointment having been found appointable.”

Governor Akeredolu, who assured the university community of his administration’s commitment to prioritising home-grown eggheads for effective management of the institution, congratulated Ige and charged him to work assiduously for the development of the institution.

Ige appreciated the governor for the opportunity and the confidence reposed in him to administer AAUA in the last one and half years in acting capacity, and promised to take the institution to a greater-heights and make it globally competitive

Ige joined the services of the then Ondo State University, Ado Ekiti, as a graduate assistant in December 1990, and rose steadily through the ranks to become a professor in October 2011.

Ige, a distinguished Professor of Palynology and Palaeoecology holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) degree in Botany from the University of Benin in 1984 before proceeding to the Nigeria’s Premier University, the University of Ibadan, where he bagged a Master of Science degree in Botany in the year 1993 and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Botany with specialisation in Palynology & Palaeoecology in 2004.
