Akeredolu’s aides resign from cabinet

Rotimi Akeredolu

TWO aides of the Ondo state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, have resigned their appointment from the state cabinet.

The two aides which included, the Senior Special Assistant on Oil and gas, Mr Benson Enikuomehin and the Special Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs, Hon Lubi Akpoebi tendered their resignation.

Enikuomehin who resigned on Monday was silent on his political future while Akpoebi announced his resignation and his exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Enikuomehin letter of resignation read “I write to resign my appointment forthwith as the Senior Special Assistant to Mr Governor on oil and Gas.

“I am indeed grateful to the governor for the opportunity to serve.”

TribuneOnline, however, gathered that the two politicians from the Ondo South Senatorial districts are heading to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

A source close to Enikuomehin explained that the former SSA resigned as governor Akeredolu’s aide as a result of frustration with the party, APC.

The source identified marginalisation and neglect of the Ondo South senatorial district as one of the major factors that prompted his principal to resign from Akeredolu’s cabinet.

He said: “The major reason responsible for Enikuomehin walking away from the cabinet and the party is mainly because of his immediate constituency. They have been marginalised with no developmental projects to point to.

“He has been humiliated and embarrassed, the party structure is frustrating and he no longer see any future with the party and the government. I can confirm to you that he is ready to go back to PDP.”

Similarly, Akpoebi said he was leaving the cabinet and APC to save his political future which he said is almost going into oblivion under the APC government in the State.

Lubi, a former lawmaker from Ese-Odo state constituency and former caretaker Chairman of Ese-Odo council area, under PDP was said to have alleged intimidation, saying the ruling APC in the state lack internal democracy and popular participation.

Akpoebi said: “I have resigned my appointment and returned to my political family, PDP. This is where I belong and I am at peace here.”
