THE wife of the Oyo State governor, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, on Friday urged the people of the state to show love to one another, especially in the Yuletide period.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the governor’s wife spoke at the Government House, while distributing food items to some orphanages and representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the 33 local government areas of the as part of the Christmas celebration.
“Love your neighbour as yourself. This will allow the spirit of sharing among you. God is love; and so, show love to each other,” she said.
The governor’s wife also charged the people not to take God for granted.
She said that the season was not one for just wining and dining, but a period of sober reflection, with hope for greatness in the years ahead.
“We have to thank God for his mercies and for keeping us till today; we believe the next year will be greater.
“Many people have died, but God in His infinite mercy has preserved our lives to see the end of 2016 in wealth and sound health, so we must always thank him,” she said.
Ajimobi also admonished children to learn the virtue of showing love to one another.
Earlier in her opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs. Funso Sali, thanked the governor’s wife for the gesture, which she said was done annually.
She called on the rich and well- to-do in the society to emulate the gesture and help in alleviating poverty and making the society a better place.
The state secretary of CAN, Rev. Segun Babatunde, on behalf of the association, thanked the governor’s wife for the gesture and prayed for peaceful co-existence in the state.
