GOVERNOR of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Adesina Michael Adeyemo, traditional rulers as well as other top government functionaries are expected to grace Eruwa Festival 2017.
According to the organisers, the last time such festival was witnessed was in the year 2000, two years after the traditional ruler of the town, His Royal Majesty, Oba Samuel Adebayo Adegbola Akindele 1, ascended the throne.
Series of programmes have been scheduled for the festival which is billed to hold between Thursday, October 12 to Sunday 15, 2017. The programme would be flagged off by Iwure (Royal Blessing) by the Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adebayo Adegbola Akindele 1, at his palace and this will be followed by a parade around the town.
Later in the day, a public lecture series has been scheduled to hold at Obaseeku High School auditorium. The first one with the title: Eruwa My Dream will be delivered by Professor Lanre Olaniyan, while the second lecture of the day: Charting a New Course for Agricultural Development in Eruwa will be handled by Professor Samuel Olakojo.
On Friday, October 13, 2017, There will be opportunity to visit historical sites in the town, followed by conferment of chieftaincy titles on some illustrious sons and daughters as well as some other individuals who are non-indigenes but have contributed one way or the other to the development of the town. A jumat service will follow suit, just as the finals of Ayo Olopon game comes up on that day.
The festival proper, where the rich cultural heritage of the town will be showcased by diferent groups as well as a N100 million Development Fund will hold at the Eleruwa Stadium, on Saturday October 14. The festival will be rounded with a Thanksgiving service on Sunday.
Speaking ahead of the festival, Oba Adegbola, stated that the programme was specially designed for Eruwa indigenes home and abroad to have a platform with which they can come together and enjoy the culture and tradition of the town in a more relaxed manner.
He hinted that:” Principally, It is a celebration of brotherhood. It is also an avenue for Eruwa indigenes to invite their friends to come and witness the rich culture of the town. The festival will no doubt afford them the opportunity of interracting with one and other, particularly those that have seen each other for a very long time. It will also give room for networking among them. We look forward to having a hitch-free festival by the grace of God”.
The Chairman, central planning committee, Chief Olagbeso Oni, while assuring a fun-filled festival hinted that:”We thank God for giving us the opportunity to put together the festival this year. I can only on behalf of the committee members assure all sons and daughters of Eruwa of a hitch-free festival as logistics have been put in a place for a kind of festival that will be a reference point”.
