OYO State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, his wife, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, retired and serving bishops, are among guests expected at a two-day event to celebrate the 50th priestly ordination anniversary of Archbishop Emeritus of Ibadan Catholic Archdiocese, Most Reverend Dr Felix Alaba Job.
Archbishop Job was ordained priest on December 24th, 1966, at Esure, Ogun State.
Chairman, Planning Committee of the event, Reverend Father Richard Omolade, who made this known on Monday, stated that the events slated for December 19 and 20, at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Oke Ado, Ibadan, will feature book presentation and fund raising for the Felix Alaba Foundation.
Speaking, Omolade noted that the honour was due for Archbishop Job for his simple and exemplary lifestyle, commitment to assisting people, provision of schools, hospitals, infrastructure across the state, and for being the first priest in the archdiocese to attain 50 years of priesthood.
He described as shameful religious leaders who amass wealth to the detriment of their followers.
“People should find something edifying and exemplary in the lives of religious leaders. That we are part of leaders who have amassed great wealth to the detriment of their people is a scandal to Christ, to all of us and a thing of shame.
“The media must continue to draw the conscience of people like that to the fact that the wrong thing is being done. The leaders exist for the people and whatever fund is raised under their care should be used for the good of the people. Archbishop Job is not ashamed to say that for more than 50 years, he lived in a one bedroom apartment,” Omolade said.
Apart from being Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan for about 45 years, Alaba Job served as Rector, St Theresa Minor Seminary, President, Oyo State Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN); Chairman, Christian Health Association of Nigeria; President, Bible Society of Nigeria, and, President, Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN).
Also expected to grace the event are Archbishop Job’s classmates, Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), priests and religious, laity, knights, heads of churches and political leaders across the country.
