Ajimobi lauded over planned repositioning of Igbeti marble site

FAMILY of the late business mogul, Chief Emmanuel Ashamu, has commended Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State over the plan by the state government to reposition the abandoned Igbeti marble site in Oke Ogun area of the state.

One of the children of the late businessman, Samuel Ashamu, gave the commendation on Wednesday, even as he described the governor as “a man of integrity, who has made good his promise and demonstrated his sincere commitment towards reviving the company.”

The governor had, while inaugurating the new board of the Nigeria Marble Mining Company (NMMC), on Tuesday, said the site would be repositioned to become a viable enterprise so as to explore its huge potential.

Ajimobi, who said Igbeti marble was one of the enterprises that have huge potential in the country, urged the new board members to review the technical management partners of the company, with a view to bring in investors, particularly from China and Australia, two countries which he said were ready with financial capability and equipment to transform the company.

Speaking with the Tribune Online, Samuel said the initiative by the governor, if implemented, would fast track the socio-economic development of the state, adding that the Ashamu family was ready to lend its support to the state government in reviving the Igbeti marble site.

He said he initiated the process that lead to the latest development, adding that he was particularly happy that Governor Ajimobi had committed the state government to a genuine effort at turning around the fortunes of the marble company.

“I thank Governor Abiola Ajimobi for making this initiative a reality. We have come a long way since the process started during his first term in 2011. The latest developments demonstrate significant progress in trying to resuscitate the company.

“The governor’s commitment is an opportunity to take things forward from there. I personally met with the governor in late 2016 and he promised to make things happen. I am happy to see traction towards what the governor had promised to do. Governor Ajimobi is a promise-keeper who has proved to be a reliable statesman.

“I also want to thank the Special Adviser to the Governor on Solid Minerals, Mr Matthew Oyedokun, who patiently tolerated my excesses in the quest to ensure that I got the listening ears of the governor over the Igbeti marble site.

“I am happy; it is a dream come true. This is a good day towards socio-economic development in Oyo State.  This is a viable project that will contribute to the development of Oke Ogun area and, eventually, the entire state”, he said.
