Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has approved the immediate release of promotions of years 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 for workers in the state’s civil and public service.

The development was contained in a statement signed by state Head of Service, Mr. Soji Eniade, and released on Tuesday.

Eniade said the promotion approval was evidence of the state government’s commitment to the welfare of its workers in the state.

Consequently, he said it was expedient upon civil and public servants to reciprocate the gesture with a renewed commitment to hard work, loyalty, dedication, effective service delivery aimed at ensuring financial sufficiency for the state.

The statement read, “The Governor, His Excellency, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has approved an immediate release of years 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 promotions in the civil/public service of Oyo state. This is an attestation to the fact that His Excellency, the governor is greatly committed to the welfare of workers in the state while expecting that the kind gesture would be adequately reciprocated by workers in the state through loyalty, hard work and commitment while in the service of Oyo state.”

Speaking with Nigerian Tribune, Chairman, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Mr Waheed Olojede, described the promotion approval as a welcome development but urged the state government to ensure that the concerned workers immediately get their letter of promotion and financial attachment.

While assuring that workers will reciprocate the gesture with increased productivity and efficiency, Olojede prayed that workers in all strata of the state civil and public service benefit from the promotion.

“The recent approval for workers promotion is a welcome development especially because it is in line with our agreement of July 25, 2016. The particular thrust of that agreement actually emphasized that all outstanding promotion between 2012 and 2016 should have the governor’s approval.

“But it is hoped that this recent approval will attract immediate financial implication at least to cushion the effect of long-term stagnation of the workers on their grade levels. We also advice that the promotion goes across the board and affects all workers across all strata of the state public service, including workers in local government services.”

“We also ask that all other benefits that can make workers be happy in their duty posts should also be granted and approved by the government.

“Workers of Oyo state will reciprocate the kind gesture of government with increased productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness at duty. But we pray that the implementation will not come not too long from now and the letters of promotion will be released with immediate effect to all concerned workers,” Olojede said.
