Ajike Atanneye ruling house presents Olatunbosun as candidate for Oluwo stool

THE race for the vacant stool of Olowo of Owo kingdom in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, may have begun, as the Ajike Atanneye ruling house of Owo has presented Prince Olayemi Olatunbosun Ajike, as its candidate for the stool, with a call for fair rotation of the stool among the existing three ruling houses in the town.

The spokesperson of the Ajike Atanneye ruling house, Prince Agboola Ajike, made this known at a press conference in Owo, also called for a method of selection that would be free of rancour and rotational among the ruling houses.

Ajike who disclosed that the last time the family of the Ajike ruling house occupied the exalted throne of the kingdom was about four decades ago when late Oba Adeoye Ajike Atanneye was installed as the Olowo of Owo, urged the traditional Kingmakers to consider the Ajike ruling house for the throne.

According to him, Oba Atanneye was the first literate king to rule the kingdom even though, he reigned for a very short period but “his reign was peaceful and achieved a lot within his very short reign.”

He, however, said the family decided to pick Prince Olatunbosun Ajike after due consultations, consideration and concessions, saying members of the Atanneye family unanimously picked Olatunbosun to represent and deliver good achievements like his grandfather.

He said: “We believe in his chances to become the next Olowo and bring development, peace, improved business, infrastructure, job opportunities, youth empowerment and a lot more with his local and international connections.”

The spokesperson who was flanked by the head of the Ajike ruling family, Elder Ladi Ajike, appealed to the senior Omoolowos and Kingmakers in the kingdom to look and consider the Ajike Atanneye’s family this time around saying ” it’s been almost 79 years since the family occupied the exalted throne of Olowo of Owo.

“We have always been gallant in defeat and cooperated with victors each time we contested. We will do the same if we are victorious this time around.”

He added that other ruling houses which included Olagbegi and Ogunoye were aware of the development that the next Olowo should emerge from the Ajikeruling house in the spirit of equity and fairness.

He, however, expressed optimism that the Ajike Atanneye would be chosen this time around and described Olatunbosun as competent, generous, noble, experienced, fit and eligible for the throne.
