Pa Adekunle Ajasin
The 20th memorial anniversary of the late civilian governor of old Ondo State (made up now of Ondo and Ekiti states) and erstwhile National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) leader, Pa Michael Adekunle Ajasin, comes up Wednesday, 3rd and Thursday, October 4, 2017 at the Olusegun Aganga Hall, International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan,10.00 am daily.
A statement signed by Mrs Jumoke Anifowose (nee Ajasin), Secretary of the Ajasin Foundation, said the two-day event would be held by the Foundation in conjunction with the Department of Arts and Social Science Education, University of Ibadan; and the Department of Arts Education, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo state.
The theme of the conference is “Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin: A teacher and a statesman”. The lecture will be delivered by erudite professor of History, Banji Akintoye, while lead papers and paper presentations will be done by other eminent scholars on Day 2 of the conference, which will be chaired by the Vice-chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede.
According to Mrs. Anifowose, the conference has been put together “to celebrate the enviable virtues of the late Chief Ajasin and will also be used to raise funds for the award of scholarship, endowments, and other development and educational projects in honour of the late elder statesman”
As governor of old Ondo state, the late Pa Ajasin laid a solid foundation for the state and as NADECO leader, he led the struggle to end military dictatorship and enthrone democracy in Nigeria.
