The Wife of the  President, Hajia Aisha Buhari and  wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo will be among  top Nigerian women expected to celebrate this year’s Imo August meeting scheduled to hold  on Thursday 9th August in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

This was made known to newsmen at a news briefing by the wife of the state Governor,  Dr(Mrs). Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha, who also pointed out that the wife of the Gambian President, Fatoumatta Bah Baro was also  expected as a guest  on the occasion.

Dr Okorocha explained that the August meeting was an annual event in the South-Eastern part of the country that every woman looks forwards to.

“It is a period when women from all walks of life gather in their respective villages, communities, town halls and religious houses to deliberate on issues, brainstorm and pool resources together for the welfare and upliftment of the society,” she added.

According to her, “over the years, we have learnt that if women are organised, they can be consistent in piloting and championing developmental projects in communities. Wherever and whenever a woman gets it right, the society gets it right.”

Dr Okorocha announced that the theme of this year’s August meeting is “Sharing our common cultural values” which she said, calls to mind the Igbo cultural heritage ‘as a way of life we should hold onto tenaciously or risk making our ethnic nationality, a laughing stock in the comity of people.’

She noted that there will also be raffle draws among  indigent widows  in the three senatorial zone to win a three two bedroom flats in each of the zone while every other participant shall go home with a gift item.
