THE Nigeria’s first lady, Hajia Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has flagged off a two- week skills acquisition and empowerment programme for women and youths in Kwara state.

One thousand women and youths that would benefit from the scheme were drawn from the 16 local government areas of the state.

The flag off of the skills acquisition programme which falls within the first lady’s “Future Assured” programme was performed at the Government House banquet hall, Ilorin.

Represented by the wife of Kwara state governor, Mrs Omolewa Ahmed, Hajia Aisha Buhari said the programme was aimed at making lives of the beneficiaries better.

The First Lady, who said that joblessness had forced many youths to engage in anti-social behaviours, added that a survey was conducted to determine which vocations were suitable for women and youths in Kwara state.

She added that the major aim of her pet project, ‘Future Assured’ was how the youths and women could be gainfully employed.

On her part, Mrs Omolewa Ahmed said the money would be made available to those who excel at the end of the training programme to start their own businesses.

She urged the beneficiaries to see the programme as a great opportunity and take maximum advantage of it.

She thanked Hajia Aishat Buhari for her interest in the wellbeing of the Nigerian youths and women.

In his remarks, the Kwara state governor, Alh Abfulfatah Ahmed thanked the Nigeria’s first lady for making Kwara part of the first set of 10 states to benefit from the programme.

He said the training and empowerment programme was highly complementary to the many youths and women-friendly programmes and policies of his administration.
