Airforce bombs terrorists’ camp in Sambisa

Published by

FEW days after the Nigerian army said it killed five top leaders of the Boko Haram sect, the  terror group suffered another major casualty, on Saturday, as the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) said it had neutralised hundreds of Boko Haram terrorists in Garin Maloma area in Sambisa Forest.

Air Commodore Director of Public Relations and Information, Olatokunbo Adesanya, made this known in statement issued on Saturday.

The NAF Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (iSR) platform had earlier sighted the insurgents, who were gathered under some trees.

Consequently, a combination of NAF fighter aircraft namely the F7-Ni, Alpha Jet and L-39 ZA aircraft was detailed to carry out air interdiction on the BHT gathering.

The Alpha Jet aircraft acquired and attacked the target with bombs, neutralising many of the terrorists. Thereafter, the F-Ni aircraft immediately conducted a bomb attack, which resulted in the death of more of them.

The L-39ZA aircraft then followed through by strafing fleeing terrorists with rockets, killing most of them in the process. After the attacks, a few BHT survivors were seen scampering from the location.

Meanwhile, THE Nigerian Air Force said, on Saturday, it foiled an attempt by Boko Haram to breach the peaceful Eid-el Kabir celebration in Borno.

Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar, stated this at a feast organised for officers and men of the service at the 105 Composite Group, Maiduguri, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported.

Abubakar held a grand feast for service men carrying out the counter-insurgency operation in the North-East, as part of the Eid-el Kabir celebration.

He disclosed that the Air Force in a joint operation with the army had destroyed insurgents’ hideouts, thereby scuttling their plans to attack communities during the festivities.

“Boko Haram insurgents planned to destabilise the Sallah celebration, but with help of the Almighty Allah and our collective efforts, we foiled their plans.

“Our objective is to protect life and property, safeguard the national territorial integrity and make our communities safe so that farmers can go back to their settlements and cultivate their farmlands,” he stated.
