Aircraft with 114 passengers suffers deflated tyre during take-off

An Air Peace aircraft with 114 passengers on board had suffered burst tyre as it was about taking off from the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), on Monday morning.

According to information gathered, the pilot of the plane was forced to abort the flight on noticing.

Confirming the development, the image-maker of the airline, Christian Iwarah, through a statement declared: “At about 11.00 a.m. today, our Lagos-Abuja flight aborted take-off at the MMA in Lagos when the pilot-in-command suspected that there was an issue with one of the tyres of the aircraft.

“Passengers on board were transferred to another aircraft to ensure they did not miss their appointments. The passengers were all calm, as it was not a life-threatening incident.

“There was no question of air return as our experienced flight crew noticed the development much before take-off. Because of the premium we place on safety, our pilots are under duty to call for checks when they suspect any fault, however basic it may be. That was what happened in this case.

“Although it was initially suspected to be a case of burst tyre, our engineering department later inspected the aircraft and confirmed that one of the tyres got deflated. The issue has since been addressed.

“We wish to assure our loyal customers, air travellers and the general public that we will continue to accord their comfort and safety top priority as we have maintained since commencement of our flight operations.”
