Air Force Commanding tasks personnel on physical fitness for active operations

Air Vice-Marshal Stephen Onuh, Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Bayelsa Mobility Command, Nigeria Air Force (NAF) on Saturday tasked military personnel on physical fitness for effective operations and nation building.

Onuh, who gave the advice in Yenagoa during the NAF’s 2017 10 Kilometre Walk/Jog said physical exercise is good to health, especially when carried regularly.

He described the annual 10 kilometre walk/jog as “significant, stating that it aimed at enhancing wellness of body and physical alertness of personnel.”

“Other security agencies participating in the exercise are the Military Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Delta Safe, the Immigration, Navy, Police and the Civil Defense Corp among others,” Onuh noted.

The AOC averred that the essence of sports to human health was imperative, especially to the fighting forces, who were the military personnel.

“This even has become part of the military culture; so, we are out today to ensure personnel fitness, which will translate into combat readiness in the face of current security challenges in the country.”

“This will enable us to compete in a harmonious and playful manner with view to strengthening the bond that binds us together.”

“The event is in line with vision of repositioning NAF into a highly professional and disciplined force; I therefore urge personnel to sustain the tempo which they have exhibited today in subsequent exercises,” Onuh stated.

Rear Admiral Suleiman Apochi, Commander, Military Joint Task Force (JTF), code named “Operation Delta Safe” in Bayelsa also urged the military personnel to live up to physical fitness.

Apochi, explained that if exercise could be seen as priority, security personnel would achieve a lot in the course of operations, not only in the Niger-Delta but Nigeria at large

“We must take it as part our routine; I must tell you, eating is worse than to do exercise,” Apochi said.
