AI revolutionising product development, says agile product manager

Published by

The integration of artificial intelligence into product development is reshaping how digital solutions are created, delivered, and optimized, according to a Nigerian product manager, who describes AI as a “game-changer” for the industry.

In an exclusive interview on Tuesday, the manager, Mayowa Adejare Adebayo, highlighted how AI is enhancing agile methodologies, driving innovation, and helping teams stay ahead in a competitive landscape.

“AI is like that reliable colleague who’s always on point,” Adebayo said, noting its impact on market research and user experience. Tools powered by AI are transforming decision-making, with predictive analytics offering insights into user behavior and future trends.

“AI tools can study user behavior, predict what they’ll want tomorrow, and suggest features that’ll blow their minds. This lets me plan my roadmaps with confidence, always staying ahead of the game,” the manager explained.

For practitioners of agile methodologies, the introduction of AI has taken flexibility and speed to new heights.

The manager described AI as a “turbocharger” for agile frameworks, streamlining processes such as sprint backlog updates and team performance tracking.

“Personally, I’ve relied on tools like Jira, Confluence, Miro board, Trello, and Azure. With AI, these tools don’t just help—they shine,” Adebayo stressed. AI’s ability to analyze data from these platforms and identify potential issues before they escalate has been a game-changer.

The product manager also emphasized AI’s role in customer-centric design, where sentiment analysis tools and feedback platforms analyze user opinions across channels such as social media, emails, and surveys. Recalling a payment platform rollout, the manager credited AI for identifying a critical user pain point early on, which allowed the team to make adjustments before launch. “Thanks to those insights, the rollout was smooth as butter. Na AI we dey use o!” the manager quipped.

However, the adoption of AI is not without its challenges. The manager underscored the importance of ethical AI practices, emphasizing fairness, transparency, and inclusivity in AI-driven systems. “If we want people to trust our products, we need to build AI systems that respect their values and privacy. There are no shortcuts here,” the manager stated, pointing out the long-term value of responsible AI development.

Looking ahead, the manager believes the future of AI in product development is promising, with emerging technologies like generative AI, IoT, and blockchain set to redefine the landscape. “Imagine dreaming up an idea in the morning and having a working mockup by lunch. That’s the kind of future we’re heading toward,” the manager predicted. The integration of AI with these technologies, according to the manager, will pave the way for smarter, more secure digital solutions that address real-world problems.

Reflecting on the evolving role of product managers, the manager said the profession is shifting from decision-making to collaboration with AI. “This isn’t just about building the next cool app or tool. It’s about using technology to make life better, one product at a time. As we say in Naija, ‘the work no go finish, but we go dey move!’” Adebayo concluded.
