THE Elders Group of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Nigeria, Majlis Ansarullah, begins its 48th annual Islamic conference (Ijtema) today at the indoor sports hall of the Mashood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The theme of the conference, which will be rounded off on Sunday, is ‘Making Living Worthwhile for All: Islamic Solutions to Economic and Security Challenges’.
A statement by the jama’at’s head of media relations, Dr Qasim Akinreti, said lectures would be delivered at the conference by Professor Saheed Timehin of the Lagos State University (LASU) and other Muslim scholars.
The statement added: “There will be Qur’an competition, speech contest on various aspects of islam, health talk and sports.

“Ahead of the conference, the Elders Group had organised a two-day free medical services for a community, visited an orphanage, paid courtesy visits to the emirs of Abachi and Bwari, as well as top government officials.
“The free medical services were offered to people with disabilities and the entire inhabitants of Karonmajiji village, off Airport Road, Abuja.
“The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Health, Dr Muhammad Ali Pate, who was represented by the Chief Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Abuja, Professor Sa’ad Ahmed.”
