The House Committees on Defence, Army, and Police Affairs were mandated to ensure strict implementation of the House resolution
The resolution followed a motion moved by Honourable Tony Nwoye on the “Need to Deploy Security Personnel to Stem the Recurring Communal Crisis between Aguleri and Umuleri Communities of Anambra State” at the plenary.
In his motion, the lawmaker said that “Aguleri and Umuleri Communities in Anambra East LGA have been involved in crisis over land which led to full blown war in 1999 during which several lives were lost and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.”
The communal crisis, he said reoccurred recently, saying that, “This time between Umungalagu and Isiokwe Ivite Aguleri and Ugume and Amaukwa villages of Umuleri during which several people were injured with matchets, guns and other dangerous weapons and houses vandalised, properties destroyed and economic activities in those communities were disrupted.”
Quoting the constitution, he said that Section 14 (2) (b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 provides that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of Government.
The motion was passed through voice vote decided by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara who presided over the plenary.
