AS the primary election of All Progressives Congress (APC) continues to generate controversy, one of the aspirants for the election, Dr. Tunji Abayomi, on Saturday, stated that the aggrieved aspirants had no justification for planning to dump the party.
Abayomi, who stated this in Akure, called for the support of all the members of the party to win the November governorship election rather than creating unnecessary tension within the party.
According to him, there is no proof that the allegedly doctored delegates’ list used for the primary election of the party favoured Rotimi Akeredolu, saying it would be difficult to determine whom ghost delegates voted for.
He advised the aggrieved members not to dump the party, saying the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state was also enmeshed in crisis.
However, Abayomi said, “moving from APC to another party is like going from frying pan to fire. In my view, is it the PDP that is in the state of comatose that is better or SDP or AA that are just parties in name?
“What is required now is to work together. We are controlling the power at the federal level and the party is big enough to accommodate all interests. I will appeal to them to forget the past and press forward.”
One of the aggrieved aspirants, Olusegun Abraham, said he was not leaving the party, but only interested in reclaiming his rightful mandate
Abraham who described the move by the leadership of the party as “inexplicably unexpected, unjustifiable and unacceptable” called for reclamation of his mandate.
He said, I was disappointed at the inexplicably unexpected and unjustifiable move by our party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, to have disregarded this informed stance of the NWC that favored annulment of that fraud-ridden primary, moving ahead to submit a name to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“It is a move that is akin to injustice, and we know it won’t stand. I condemn it in strong terms, and I’m sure a lot of us do.
“We can’t win the general election by subverting the truth, especially not among the kind of Ondo people who relentlessly dislike injustice. We must not play into the hand of the opposition.
, who have been seemingly empowered in the little time our primary election has
remained inconclusive.”
“My consultations are ongoing, and I will give an official and more detailed address very soon.”
A party Chieftain of the party in the camp of the party’s candidate wo spoke on condition of anonymity urged members to stop the trade blame and should work together for the success of the party in the election.
He said The decision to uphold the election showed that Akeredolu is the most popular and accepted by the people of the state.
He stated that the party leadership took the step to uphold the election in order to ensure victory in the governorship election.
A party member from Chief Olusola Oke camp said “ we are not weighing the option if leaving the party but the people of the state will give us the next line of action.
We want to talk to our supporters across the 18 local government areas in the state and check the pulse of out supporters and if what they are saying is simulate we will take a step but if there is connection between the two, we will follow their decision.”
Three aspirants which include the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2012 governorship election, Chief Olusola Oke, Dr Olusegun Abraham and a lawmaker representing Ondo North at the senate, ,Prof Ajayi Boroffice have tabled their dissatisfaction over the decision to pick Akeredolu over the decision of NWC.
The aspirants frowned over the undemocratic behavior of the leadership of the part over its decision to pick Akeredolu as the party’s candidate, pointed an accusing finger to the National Chairman of the party, John Oyegun for over ruling the decision of the National Working Committee.
