The new Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi has pledged to engender team work and enhance the credibility of the treasury.
Ogunjimi, who spoke on Monday when he assumed office in Abuja, highlighted the collective responsibility of accounting officers in achieving the objectives of the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF).
The AGF employed all staff to work together to make the Office an institution that is well respected, and stressed his commitment to the success of the Treasury.
Ogunjimi said, “The task ahead is enormous. If I fail, every single one of you here has failed. I am ready to commit myself, my life, to the service of this institution. I am here to do everything possible to make sure that the Treasury is at the head of all institutions in Nigeria,” he declared, his passion evident. Please, I beg of you. Let us work together. I want that spirit of togetherness and oneness to be in everybody. Whether you are a treasury officer or support staff, we are all in this together.”
He called on the staff to reflect on their roles in shaping the image of the Treasury, and shared his approach to leadership, promising to give everyone a fair hearing to avoid the pitfalls of favoritism.

“If anybody comes to me with concerns, I’ll call the director involved. We’ll decide together whether it’s worth it. I want everyone to have the spirit of togetherness. I am not part of any group, and I am not going to polarize the office. If I fail, everyone here has failed. I am ready to commit myself to the service of the public,” Ogunjimi stated.
He assured his team that he was there to support them, and added, “If there’s anything bothering you, disturbing you in the discharge of your functions, I’m here. Talk to me. I’m your AGF. Be free to come to me. I will listen to you. I’m a good listener.”
He reiterated his commitment to be professional in the discharge of his duties, and pledged to foster accountability and efficiency in financial management.
Ogunjimi was appointed as the new Accountant General of the Federation following the retirement of Dr. Oluwatoyin Madein on March 7, 2025.
Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos.
He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and has over 30 years of experience in financial management in the public and private sectors.
