AGF Fagbemi hails Tinubu, NASS for judicial officers’ salary increase

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assenting to the Judicial Office Holders Salaries and Allowances Bill, 2024.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Fagbemi noted that the President’s historical assent to the Bill has addressed the long-standing demand of judicial officers across the country for improved conditions of service.

The AGF recalled that judicial officers in Nigeria have been on the same salary for nearly two decades.

The statement reads: “President Tinubu has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the sustainable reform of the administration of justice. This is a crucial component of that reform.

“The review of judicial remuneration is a significant first step toward achieving a judicial system that serves the interests of all Nigerians.

“Moving forward, my ministry, in partnership with justice sector stakeholders, will work to identify and resolve additional issues related to the strengthening of the judiciary,” the AGF added.

Fagbemi also expressed profound appreciation to the 10th National Assembly for their concern regarding the plight of the judiciary and judicial officers in Nigeria, as evidenced by their swift passage of the Bill.
