Agege feeding programme is for vulnerable people in Nigeria, Africa — Founder

The Founder of a Non-Governmental Organisation, Agege Feeding Programme, Dr Edward Akinlade, has stated that the programme is for the destitute, disabled people and others in Nigeria and Africa.

Akinlade, who stated this while speaking with the newsmen on the level of poverty in the continent, said they are the people who cannot work to earn a living.

He added the country does not have any social benefit system; Hence, supporting them with food and cash once in every month.

According to him, the NGO recently fed the same set of people in Portnovo, Benin Republic where cash and food were given to the targeted audience.

While quoting the statistics of Nigeria having over 40 per cent unemployed, the Founder urged other well-meaning Nigerians to join in the outreach programme in a bid to complement the efforts of the government.

He said that the government alone cannot do it, but organisations can have it as their Corporate Social Responsibility to lift the continent out of poverty.

Meanwhile, a Media Company, High Celebrity Squad, recently awarded the Agege Feeding Programme for satisfying one of the goals of the SDGs to eradicate poverty and hunger.

“There are people among us that are not able to work. We don’t have any social benefit system.

“So, I support them once a month with feeding and also a little bit of cash giving them hope that somebody is interested in their welfare.

“I have been going to Agege in the middle of the destitute, blind, lame when they were on the train track 15 years back.

“The able-bodied can always work. The blind, lame people cannot see, hear and talk

“In Nigeria, the report had it that we have about over 40 percent unemployed

“We should not leave everything to the government. For us, it is a way of giving back to the less privileged,” he said.
